Relocating water and drain lines

I'm not sure if this should be in the Plumbing or Concrete forums, so I decided to try here first.

We're in the planning stages of remodelling and expanding our kitchen. The problem is the plumbing lines are in the wall we are going to remove, and they come up through the concrete slab. I've done a fair amount of plumbing and concrete work, but I've never faced the problem of removing concrete from around existing plumbing lines.

What's the best way to accomplish this? Turn off the water, fire up a breaker hammer and let her rip? Or is it better to finesse it, using a chipping hammer to remove the concrete from around the pipes, then breaking up the surrounding area? The drain line will be relocated about a foot, but the water lines will have to be rerouted about 6 feet.

Thanks,

Bill

Finesse it, take your time, the less pipe you damage the better off you we be when the time comes to cut and move the pipes.
