Kitchen faucet problems

Often when I turn on the water (hot OR cold, I think), the faucet makes a loud "thunkthunkthunk" noise - and jerks. By changing the water volume, sometimes I can get it to stop. Also, occasionally, I turn the water on and there is a tiny stream, that slowly increases, and then if I pull out the sprayer, it will get up to full volume. The sprayer leaks too, I have to keep it pulled out so that the leak does not drip under the cabinet. I know I need a plumber to fix this darn sink (it was expensive too - only about 2 years old darn it!!) - I doubt this is anything I can easily fix. Any idea how long (and how much $$) a repair should take?

Sounds like dirt is in the faucet along with other issue of loose washer or stuck diverter in faucet. Check the water pressure to determine if high pressure has any bearing on this.
