replacing cartridge

I have a Moen, 2 handle kitchen faucet that is leaking. I called Moen and they sent me a replacement cartridge. Installation seems easy enough, but how do I know which cartridge needs to be replaced (hot water handle vs. cold water handle)?

Which one is leaking??

If you're not sure, go to HD or LOWES and buy a second cartridge, and replace them BOTH.

You can figure it out by shutting off the valves underneath and see which one stops the leak.

Or by gauging the temperature of the dripping from the faucet.

It just so happens that my kitchen sink/faucet has no shutoff valves underneath.

The water dripping from the faucet is cold, so I'll replace the cartridge in the cold water handle first and see if that's the solution.

Thanks for your help.

When you shut the water to the whole house off to replace the cartridge, that would be an EXCELLENT time to install shut off valves under the sink
