Refill water softener

Hey all,
I've got a Kinetico water softener that is at least 10 years old [probably more]. I just need to know if there's any special maintenance I need to do on it and if I just dump more salt in the tank when it runs out or is there more to it? It has, I believe, an automatic flushing system on it. We've been renting here 5yrs. now and nothing has been done to it, and I really know nothing about them.
Thanks for any info/advice,
Kurt

hello, as far as maintenance you should always follow manufactures intructions.
however generally little maintenance is required . if it has been five years and you have not looked at it then you might want to clean out the brine tank. i do not know what kind of salt you are using but you should use salt with an IRON removing additive or an iron removing product when you add salt to remove iron build-up in the resin tank(s). if everything is working well then the cation resin "should" not need to be changed. also not a bad idea to take two water samples, one before and one after the softener to make sure it is working as well as it should be.

Merry Christmas
