How to Prime a Water Pump

Our water pump was running when we got home... no water at the faucet. I am assuming that it lost its prime. How do I prime it???????

turn off the power to the pump first. there should be a small plug at the top of the pump casing,remove this plug and fill with water,when full put the plug back in then restart your pump,if this priming only works until the next time the pump starts there may be a problem with your foot valve or suction line.
