My kitchen sink is slightly clogged. I've tried snaking the drain, but barely anything came out. Is there something better than a snake I can use? Also if I use the plunger on the sink the pipes below it start to leak. Is it supposed to do that?

Also do the products like DrainO and things like that actually work? Should I periodically pour some down the drain to keep it from clogging up? Thanks

you need to determine where the clog is,
it could be in the waste arm which is
before the stack, or it could be the
horizontal portion of the sink line.
if your roof is easy to climb on locate
the stack that penetrates the roof above
the kitchen area when the sink is clogged,
now drop a penney down the stack,if you
hear a splash or a murky thud the line more than likley needs to be ran from the roof
with a 3/8-1/2 inch cable.
tell me what you find

Drano is for a complete clog. For sluggish drains, you need to use another product like DrainCare Build-up Remover. And, yes, they do work. Just follow the directions. (Try Gary's suggestion first.) I use build-up remover on my drain lines on a fairly regular basis, and never have any problems. The stuff needs to flow thru, and it eats out grease, soap scum, etc.overnight, and you just flush with hot water. Works great.
