My Kitchen sink is clogged, I've tried several different commercial and "home" solutions with no luck. I have already checked the trap and it is clear. The bathroom sink, toilet are both fine, and the washing machine drains fine too. What should my next step be--without callling a plumber? I've heard about snakes before, but never used one. I know I can purchase or rent one. Question I have is: Is there a certain type I should get, and is there a certain way to use a snake--Thanks for your help..I'm new to this homeowner stuff.

Have you tried blocking the 2nd sink drain FIRMLY - say with an old towel -, then using a standard plunger on the other side? Be sure to have someone else hold the towel in place, the pressure you put on the plunger will shoot any liquid up the 2nd drain, if not held firmly.
