we just had two outdoor faucets moved and the plumber did not use copper pipes like we had before. He used pvc (?) instead. These are in our basement. Is this an acceptable practice? My husband says he should have used copper and now he's worried. He said if you say it's alright he will accept it. KarenJean

Have a sewage pump in the concrete floor that receives waste from a shower and toilet and pedestal lav in a bathroom about three to five feet away from the pump. Behind the wall where the toilet is there is a small bar sink that is also piped into the drain fittings where the shower and toilet drain lines are. Since the bar sink rarely gets used I have to keep the drain covered because the water evaporates and everyone does not remember to put water in the drain all the time to keep sewage gas from coming back. The sewage pump has some power so the short distance it pumps and the fact there is a check valve on the verticle line, one gets a good water hammer bang which there is not much one can do about.......but, I also noticed that when someone uses the toilet and the pump comes on (this also might happen when the pump comes on from one taking a shower) you can hear what sounds like water actually being sucked from the piping from the bar drain and then a couple times when the pump shut off there was some splash back into the bar sink. I thought possibly this might be due to the fact that if there was any water in the bar sink drain it is almost being pulled out in the pumping cycle and of course if no one uses the sink the drain never has water.........would this lake of water have anything to do with water being pushed back into that drain and if not, what might be causing it. Toilet, shower and lav in bath all are just fine and have never had water get pushed back thru either the shower or lav drain, only this bar sink drain. Any suggestions? Dave Doran
