Shower drain rough in

I am roughing in my plumbing for a small pool house. Bath will have a shower stall only, I know the toilet drain is 12.5 from wall studs, is there a similar standard for the shower drain or will I need to buy my shower pan first?

buy the shower pan first! Pull your measurement off of it.

Listen to Rickk -- there is NOTHING standard about the placement of shower drains in the pan. Have the shower stall on hand, then go from there.

Old Faucet Stem - how to remove?

My bathtub faucet is dripping. The house was built in 1939 and the faucet is the original American Standard. Figured a gasket had rotted away and just needed to be replaced. We removed the faucet handles and attempted to use one of the standard stem tools that we have... wrong size and it won't work. The stem is pretty hashed from years of repairs, but just isn't the right size for the stem tools we have on hand. Is there a special tool for older stuff? Or is this the type of job that requires a call to a professional? Thanks in advance for any help on this.

Connecting Cast Iron to PVC?

I have a basement shower that needs replacing in a 40 year old house. It appears that the shower was placed directly over a metal floor drain and a pvc pipe was epoxied into the bowl of the floor drain. This definately doesn't look like an acceptable way to do things, so I am interested in replacing the bowl. Is it possible take out the metal floor drain and replace it with a PVC pipe? How does one transition from Cast Iron to PVC?
