At a kitchen drain where metal pipe is used and attaches to a leaded pipe, can plastic pipe be used to replace the metal pipe? How can plastic pipe be effectively threaded to the metal pipe?

Cool

PVC plastic drainpipes have threaded slip nuts and washers that fit right onto metal pipe threads. Just ask at the hardware store.

Are you saying there is metal pipe under the sink that attaches to lead pipe coming out of the wall?

Cool

I'm just saying that if you have a threaded pipe fitting coming out of the wall, on whatever type of pipe that there is, a PVC plastic fitting (nut and rubber washer)will connect to it.

Usually plastic and metal work together inder the sink. If you wanted metal to metal use a metal slip nut with a plastic washer that also works fine. Lead pipe can get fragile over the years so be aware of that.
