I have a toilet that looses water from the bowl but the tank water stays at the same level. The water in the bowl goes down to about two inches from the drain. Any ideas why this would happen? My house is 6 years old.

Thanks in advance for any help!

IS THE RUBBER FILL TUBE INSERTED INTO THE OVERFLOW ?
IT EXTENDS OVER FROM THE BALL **** AND IS WHAT RE-FILLS THE BOWL.
ALSO SOME TIMES WHEN SEWER TROUBLE IS TRYING TO DEVELOP THE WATER IN THE BOWL WILL DROP,
ALSO A MOP STRING CAUGHT UP IN THE TRAP AND HANGING OVER THE TOP OF THE TRAP CAN SYPHON THE BOWL DOWN LIKE A WICK

I turned the water off, cleaned the bowl very well, and then soaked all the water out of the bowl with towels. I used a mirror to see if something was in the drain line - nothing. I then poured four large buckets of water down the drain. The water ran down very fast - no constriction. Turned the water back on and the toilet works fine now. No leak! Thanks for the advice.
