Question

I'm getting a tap-tap-tap noise (the best way I can describe it!) when the heating comes on. Presumably caused by expansion of copper pipes as they move over timbers or in tight spaces. Someone once told me how to fix it, but I've forgotten!

I assume you put something between the pipe and the timber . . . but what? Help, please.
Best wishes from Glasgow, Scotland

the pipes do need room for expansion, the holes should of been drilled for that.

Jack,
The felt padding that is commonly found under carpeting is an excellant "stuffing" material to put between the pipe and the timbers. It is soft enough to alow expansion, and will quiten the noise somewhat. You may still hear some noise as the pipe itself will make a little noise while expanding and contracting. But the felt is usually a big help.
