Icemaker - Copper tubing compression nut

Im so glad i found this place!! - Okay well I have a new fridge with icemaker and a husband who is not a handy man...The copper tubing, which was once hooked up to icemaker...has been crimped and sealed with silicon...What do I need to cut the tube and add a new end (compression nut?) in order to hook it up to the icemaker?? Do I need a solter gun? Can I do this project without it? Any help or suggestions are very much appreciated!!! If not tis off to Home Depot to see if they can help!! Thanks You

First make sure you shut off the water before you work on this. Then get a pair of tubing cutters. Home Depot should have them. The tubing cutters are fairly easy to use. Cut the end off where it has been crimped and sealed. It is important to make sure the copper stays round so the compression ring and nut will slip over the copper. After you cut the copper then put the compression nut followed by the compression ring. Then push the copper into the fitting and tighten the compression nut to the fitting. be sure to use a back up to keep waht you are tightening on from getting damaged. Home depot will also be able to show you how to do this and how to use tubing cutters.
