Question

The external mechanical lever controlling the bathtub drain has broken from the internal apparatus which enables bathtub drainage. I can't seem to locate any other mechanical means to drain my tub. How can I drain the tub and replace the "drain lever assembly?"

Remove the cover that your trip lever handle was in (should be just 2 screws) and fish out the plunger assembly. This will allow the tub to drain. Depending on exactly what broke in the trip lever assembly (probably the brass cotter pin), you may be able to repair it, or you may need to replace the entire trip lever assy. Either way, it's neither difficult, not expensive.
