Sprinkler System cleaning

I just moved into a home that has a sprinkler system. I've heard there is some maintenance to do for it prior to the spring/summer watering. What do I need to do? How do I "clean it out?"

I would first turn the system on, and see how many pop-up heads actually work.

Then see if there is any leaks in your system, then I would consider cleaning it out.

Most times dirt doesn't get into these, but, I could be wrong.

Post back with your initial fire up of the system, and go from there.

If it was properly shutdown leaks are unlikley. Like in the previous reply dirt does not get into sprinkler systems but the water has particles in it that may clog up parts of the system. Drip system are more susseptible to this than most. There is also a good site with lots of information on sprinklers:

Good luck
