Question

Help! I've replaced several bathroom sinks and, no matter what I do, the traps leak! New/replacement parts, old parts, they all leak. Hand tightened, wrench tightened. Rubber washers, plastic washers. What am I doing wrong? Is there some "sealer" I can use?

Make sure you put the gaskets in correctly. Then put a small amout of pipe dope on the treads and tighten snug. Usually hand tight plus a half turn or so depending on how strong the person hand tighten it.

Cool

One old trick is to smear a very thin coat of silicone caulk on both sides of the sink gasket with your finger to seal it, but not enough to make it hard to remove. Then tighten like he just said. Good Luck!
