Question

I removed the cap and screw, followed by the handle, but I have no access to the packing nut to remove the valve and change the washer...I can't even see a packing nut. How do I remove the valve in this situation?

Are you talking about a tub or shower valve? If so, is there a chrome escushion (trim piece)involved? If so, remove that and you should be able to get to the nut that retains the stem. Now you can get into the washer and seat for replacement.

Cool

Sounds like you are going to need a faucet socket of the proper size to fit over the stem onto the hexagonal part of the valve body that will allow you to back it out. Need to buy or borrow a set of sockets, or just one, if you know the exact size. Good Luck!
