If you have gas in the house, then use a gas water heater. Depending on your local utility rates, it'll save you $30 to $75 per month.

Exclamation

I recently replaced my gas water heater with an electric one. I also got a water heater timer to go with it. Set that rascal to be off during periods of low or no usage (like when you are asleep) and set it to come on about an hour before you take you morning showers. Set it to go off after everyone leaves the house and then back on during the evening when you might need to do dishes or whatever. With the timer my additional cost to the power bill is only a few bux more than what I was spending on gas. Then again, I don't have to buy a carbon monoxide alarm in for every area that has a gas fixture cause I took all the gas fixtures out.
