Sump pump not turning on
#1

A few weeks ago, we had a huge rainfall. My sump pump was working non-stop for about 24 hours straight. It kept on going even when there was hardly any water left. At that point I unplugged it, and then plugged it back in. It did not turn itself back on then. Last night and today we got a fair amount of rain. Quite a lot of water is sitting there in the sump pump "basin" (sorry-I don't know what the correct term is). The pump hasn't triggered on. And I am getting worried. Is there some way I can manually turn it on? Any other ideas? Thanks very much.

First, remove the pump and check to see if there is something wedged in the impeller. Also check to see if the pump motor is good, or if running it dry burned up the motor. Other things to check are the float switch, and make sure you have power to the pump. Think that pretty much covers all of the bases, and you WILL find the problem.
