I would like to replace the tub/shower controls in my bathroom, as they are showing their age. The Price-Pfister single-control fixture has the shower diverter built in to the flange. However, any new fixtures I have seen have the diverter on the tub faucet. Where can I find a replacement trim kit so that I can update the look of the fixtures without having to replace the whole fixtures?

Yes, I checked there, but they only seem to carry models with the faucet diverter nowadays (as does every other vendor - Moen, American Standard, Delta, that I've checked).

Are the flange-diverter type not made any more?

Well they may not, you could have the trim refinished, I'm sure there are places to have this done.

Last resort is to replace the valve with a new one.

It could be that the mfgrs have all gone to the diverters on the spout. However, if you replace the entire tub/shower valve, the new one will be pressure compensated, so nobody gets scalded when they are taking a shower and a toilet gets flushed, or a glass of water gets drawn in the kitchen. That may make the diverter on the spout seem like small change!!

 

Replacing the spout and the shower head shouldn't be a problem, but how big a chore is it to replace the valve, i.e., is it a DIY project? I'm pretty sure there is a way to access the plumbing without ripping out the tub/enclosure (there is a closet next to the tub where I think I could access it).

Open the wall up, you should be able to see the connections, it is not an easy task replacing a valve, if your not sure about it call in a plumber.
