This is to clarify earlier problem. The water to my hot water spigot would not flow. I was told there could be trash in tank so I drained it with a water hose. I already drained it so I have to replace it now? No previous problems noted in tank and water was hot! You can tell I'm not a plumber!!

First, you DID turn the power to the water heater off BEFORE you drained it, DIDN'T YOU? Fine, now, turn the water to the heater back on and open a hot faucet (bathtub works great) and wait until you have ALL of the air out of the pipes (solid water coming from the faucet) before you turn the power to the water heater back on. If you are still having water flow problems, the problem is probably corrosion in the pipes or a clogged shut off valve. Is the water flow problem isolated to one faucet, or is it affecting all of the faucets in the house?
