Dear Forum Members,

I cannot shut off my outdoor water spigot completely. This water spigot is the one attached to the main line, so if I shut it off at the base, my whole house will have no water.

When I turn the round knob, it is loose in my hand and will not completely cut off the water supply.

Clearly this is a problem that needs repair, but I have no idea how to even begin.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Your problem may be a worn faucet washer.
Shut off the main water supply,Use a pipe
wrench and an adjustable wrench to unscrew
the top of the faucet take it to a plumbing
supply or home store to match up washer at bottom of faucet, replace washer, It should
work like new. if not replace the faucet
