snaked out drain pipe from washer

The plumber said that alot of lint was caught on this drain pipe where the washer drains the water. I lived in my house for 4 years. The previous owners looks like didnt bother cleaning out or snaking out this problem. Also found some kind of slippery substance like oil run threw the sewer pipe looks like that color. What was that. Also i have a lint screen attached to the drain hose in ths stand up pipe. Is this helpful. How do i aviod this happening again about my drain pipe. Please help!!

Those aluminum lint screens on the end of the WM discharge hose do a good job of keeping the lint out of the drain line. Continue using those, and changing them every so often, and you probably won't have the clog problem in the future.

The 'gunk' you are describing in the drain line is just old decomposed 'gunk'. The previous owners didn't use lint screens.
