Cool

From my basement I can see the bathtub drain pipe leaking. It appears to be a two part brass drain. One section comes straight down from the tub drain. The other section fits perpendicularly into the straight down pipe at one end; the other is compression fitted into the overflow drain(which also comes straingt down. The pipe has developed a leak at the end that is not compression fitted. Should this end be soldered or is there another method to stop the leak. Thanks for your help.

Since it's a brass drain, it has probably outlived its useful life. Don't bother trying to repair it; simply replace it. I would suggest going to a plastic drain assy. Less expensive and they will last longer. You have a great advantage in that it is open and acessable from your basement.
