Garbage disposal

Our garbage disposal is new and will not work properly. I bought a "disposal wrench" and I can loosen the thing up, but when I turn it on it only goes for about 1 second and then it jams again. I've put my hand down the sink multiple times and can't feel anything in there...what do we do?

Keep working it with the disposal wrench. If you still are making no progress, remove the disposal and turn it upside down, then work it with the disposal wrench. Once you have it out you can remove the rubber kickback guard and get a better look inside with a flashlite.

You mentioned that this was a NEW unit.
Therefore it has a warranty.
Suggestion:
After you remove the disposal and still don't find anything causing the jam up, it may just be one of the grinder blades catching on the stationary bottom plate.
If this is the situation, then by all means return the unit for a replacement.
