Markings on Copper Pipe

What do the different colours on the copper pipes indicate. What type of pipes should I be using when I install my new shower.

The color indicates the strength of the pipe. For residential construction, the cheapest is fine.

Type m copper is what I use alot of, but type l is thicker, and go with it if you can.

Thanks for response. If I used a 2 foot section of m (red) in the a shower line, is this dangerous in terms of durability. Would you rcommend I change it to I (blue)

No, I wouldn't change it. There's probably a few hundred other feet of type M pipe in your house already. What's two feet more?
