shower drain smells
#1

Our master bathroom shower drain has been smelling up the bathroom. When I look into the drain it has water in it, so we thought it was a clog and snaked it, but neither did the water go down, nor did the smell leave. Upon doing research, I then undid both traps in the adjacent sinks, snaked out those and cleaned them in a water/bleach solution. Still the shower drain smells and there is water in it. It lets water through, so is it a clog? I would appreciate any advice!

Don't know where the smell would be coming from but the water in the drain is the water seal of the trap. ( so sewer gases don't come into the shower. Since it drains, there doesn't appear to be a clog. You may have to take a "closer sniff" to see if the smell is from the drain or surrounding area near the shower.May be a leak that is running across the flooring. Good luck and please post back.

The smell could be from algae build-up above the trap water in the drain.
Get some DrainCare, an enzyme-based drain cleaner, and follow the directions on the jug. It will eat out all organic gunk, but won't harm the shower, drain or pipes.
Good luck!
