Question

I have replaced the hot and cold stems, as well as the diverter stem for my shower. It is a Sayco set. I also replaced the seat in the diverter stem. However, the water still pours out of the faucet when the shower is cut on. It is the hot water, too. I want to stop wasting all that water, but have hit a road block. Any advice?

You may have a defective new diverter stem, remove it and take it back for a replacement, see if that is the problem if, not please let us know.

This is the 3rd stem I've tried. Maybe they are junky replacement parts. Also, the end of the stem seems to get loose after use(not the rubber washer area, but the area before it where it looks like the water flows through.) Sometimes the shower makes a hum or loud noise.

Hummm..... make sure all moving parts are free to turn and not to tight, with moving parts too tight and cause parts to loosen up.

When you replaced the seats did you make sure you got the correct seats for that valve?

Other then what I have said, you got me stumped, without being there it's hard for me to figure out what is up with it. All new part you would think the problem would be solved.

I ran into this once. Turned out to be a crack inside the valve that was letting water past the diverter seat. Only cure for that was to replace the valve. (If it makes you feel better, in 45 years of plumbing, my Dad never ran into THIS one!!)
