Red face

My water bill shot up about 600% over the last two months, so I went outside and I noticed the ground was wet a couple feet from where the supply line enters my house. It looks like the supply line tubing is copper coming into the basement. Should I just go outside and dig and try to repair the leak myself or should I call a plumber? What kind of bill would I expect from the plumber if I go that route?
Thanks for your help,
steve

Copper pipe can be a pain to fix when it's existing and in the ground, to keep the cost down, have it dug out at least 2' along the pipe and 6" below it, this will make plenty of room for the repair, call for estimates is the best option to learn of the cost.
