Connecting PVC to lead pipe
#1

We are remodeling an old house and want to attach PVC pipe to some old lead pipe. How can we do this? We are replacing most of the old lead pipe with PVC, but there is about a 3 foot section that we cannot get to unless we do more remodeling than we had been planning/budgeting on. Is there a way to attach PVC to lead pipes without threads? With threads? Any advice/suggestions are appreciated.

Yes, there are pvc threaded adapters that screw onto threaded galvanized pipes. And there are pvc sleeves that slide onto unthreaded pipe that have rubber gaskets that seal when the cap around pipe is tightened to the sleeve. Just look for what you need in Lowe's or Home Depot plumbing section. Used all the time for galvanized or copper pipe transitioning to pvc. Use pvc for cold water supply or drains only. You need cpvc for hot water lines. Good Luck!
