I am puttin in a basement bath and was going to tie into the existing vent line. I was told that was against code and must run a new vent line to the attic and then tie into the stack. Why is that code?? I dont see how if the vent somehow flooded why it just wouldnt go into the drain line anyway.

Is there other drins in the basemeant? if there are and you know for sure there are vent that you can tie too, then I do not see why you can't.

The vent line I was talkin about is from the first floor toilet. The basment bath I am installing is directly below the first floor bath. The existing toilet vent comes out of the toilet drain and then up (to the attic I assume). I was told you have to go 6in higher than the highest fixture,which would mean going up to the attic.

You were told correctly. You cannot vent one floor off the soil stack serving a floor above. Did the builder not put any soil stack to serve the basement?

The soil stack does go into the basement slab and into the main drain. I want to tie into a vent (which is for the first floor toilet) which is in the basment ceiling and then goes into the attic (I assume) It does not connect to the main stack at the basement ceiling.

Where are you going to drain this tub to?

If there is no drain stack going into the basement floor, then are you planing on sump pumping it up and out?

You will nee to vent the tub line 6" above your highest fixture flood level rim.

There is no other options, you could use an auto-vent but there no code approved in alot of areas.

ClearWave Water Softener - Does it Work?

An ad in Popular Science by TechnoScout claims that it solves hard water problems without salt, chemicals, etc. Their product is ClearWave and uses an electric field to control hard water and scale formation. Does anyone own this or know if it works? I have to replace our old water softener and this looks great IF IT WORKS.

Toilet not emptying

I live in a condo with 2 bathrooms. One toilet will not flush out. The water comes in, but will not go down right away. Within a few minutes it has gone down, but paper, etc. is still in it. Is this a building problem or just my own individual problem? Everything else seems to drain OK. HELP.
