Two days ago our dishwasher got repaired. This works great now but an hour after the repairman left the kitchen sink started to stream hot water, even when completely turned off. After a few hours of this I got so sick I went on-line to get some advice. I then followed some advice on trying to replace the washers so turned the water off under the sink, both hot and cold. Then proceeded to take the hot stem faucet apart. They suggested if nothing else just turn the old washer over until a replacement could be purchased. I did this, put it back together, turned the water on and now no water comes (from either hot or cold-I never touched the cold). I don't know what to do. I have called the repairman back and he can't get back to me until next week...I NEED a kitchen sink. Is there anything I can do in the meantime to attempt to solve the problem myself?

Thanks.

Make sure you turned the shut offs back on under the sink.

You couldn't have reversed the washer on the hot cartridge without shutting off the water under the sink. I think once you got the hot cartridge back together, you forgot to turn the water back on under the sink.

What you might have to do is clean the faucet. To do this you must turn off the water booth hot and cold. Remove both cartridges. Find a heavy cloth and place it over the cartridge openings. While some one holds there hands over the openings under the cloth you must turn the water on, both sides. First one and then the other. Do not turn water on all the way. Just enough so that if there is anything in the line it will flush it out. Then you must clean the aireator. To do this you need a dish towel or rag and some pliers. At the end of the faucet neck were the water comes out of. place the towel or rag over the little thing with the screen in it then remove it with your pliers. Look and see if there is any debries in the screen. If there is try to clean it out by running water over it in another sink. be sure the sink is pluged first.some pieces may fall out. but do not worry it goes rite back together. Just study it before you clean it. I know this sounds like a lot but it is not and it is very simple. Hope this helps you out. TRB

All the above is good advice,
Another thing it may be is that occassionaly when you shut water off under a sink, I have found that the washer from the shutoff valve has come loose from the stem and stuck to the seat. This is especially true of less expensive shut offs that have the washer pushed on a retainer rather than held on with a screw.

If you don't get any water when you try to flush the faucet like TRB described, I would shut the water off to the house and remove the stems from the shut off and inspect for a blockage. Replace with a new washer or possible just replace the whole shutoff valve.
