roof vent for toilet
#1

I've owned a house for three years. Whenever
we use water we get a septic smell coming
from the roof vent. I've had the tanks pumped
and replaced cracked pipes leading to the
tanks. What can I do to eliminate the odor
coming from the toilet vent on our roof? I
extented the pipe about 2 feet but we still get order at our door. I thought about putting a trap on the pipe on the roof but
don't know if that is a good idea. Help!!

Sounds like your toilet stack was installed where the prevailing wind over your roof blows the sewer gas down near your door.
Unfortunately, the only way to maybe solve the problem is to move the vent stack so that it vents to the other side of the roof.
Do NOT block or put a trap on a vent. You will defeat its purpose, and create major drain problems.
I'm not a plumber, so one of the pros in here can provide you with better advice. However, that's the only solution that I see. Good Luck!
