Question

Our bathtub drain is plugged. All other pipes are running fine. We have used some liquid drain opener with no success. When plunged, black particles came up and a horrible sewer smell. Any ideas, advice, etc.?

Remove the toggle plate on the overflow and pull the linkage and plug out. This should be just two screws to remove and then pull out fairly easily, you may have to work it a little. Do you have hair built up on the end? If so clean it off and reinstall it. If you still have problems, go to Home Depo and buy a cheap drain cleaning spinner, run this down through the overflow hole as far as you can, you might have to do this a few times to get it, flush the line with lots of clean hot water when your done.
