Question

WE WOULD LIKE TO REPLACE OUR OLD VANITY TYPE SINK WITH A PEDASTAL SINK IN A VERY SMALL BATHROOM. AFTER REMOVING THE OLD SINK IT LOOKS LIKE THE PLUMBING WILL SHOW BEHIND THE NEW SINK SINCE THE PEDASTAL DOES NOT SIT FLUSH WITH THE WALL. THERE ARE NO INSTRUCTIONS IN THE BOX SO WE ARE NOT SURE IF WE NEED TO MOVE THE PLUMBING OR IF THERE IS A WAY TO HIDE IT. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

The pedastal sinks that I have installed have the pedastal sitting out from the wall about center on the lavatory. THe lavatory is attached to the wall like a regular wall hung sink. On the pedastal there should be a place on the bottom side of the sink that fits to the pedastal. On remodeling its not uncommon to have a problem with the plumbing showing. The only way to hide the plbg is to move it.
I would go back to where you bought the lavatory and ask them for a copy of the installation instructions or at least the rough in specs. If they dont have them, set the lavatory up against the wall and take measurements for the locations you think would look the best and move the plumbing to this point. Rule of thumb, rough the 1.25" drain at 18" and the water supplys at 21"
(through the wall) make sure these heights will give you room to hook up the trap and water supplys for your lav. Use chrome so that if any of it shows it will look good.
But remember, the plumbing is going to be somewhat visible no matter what you do.
Good Luck,
Plumber John
