I want basic How To guidance for extending a gas line to fuel a dryer. Since gas is dangerous, I want to ask and study before deciding if I should attempt it myself, and if I go ahead, I'd get a permit and work with the inspectors. Its a small, old house. Existing lines are 3/4" black pipe to a ter heater then a floor furnace at the center of the house. I would extend the line from the furnace (replacing an elbow with a Tee) to the utility room 14 feet away. Plumbing is under the house in a crawl space. Is the following correct? -Continue to use black pipe and fittings, of the size of the original. -Hangers at least every 8 feet, and not at connectors. -Deburr new pipe. -Cut the pipe to exact length? (plan carefully, and no unions is straight sections). -Seal threads with a thread sealant labeled as suitable for gas (Is this just the Teflon goo I use with other threaded fasteners?). Areas I'm uncertain about: -Does the upward pipe segment need to be inside a wall? -What is the tightening torque for pipe fittings? -How high above the floor should the shutoff valve be? Same Q for the height of the pipe emergence. -What is a sensible orientation of hardware? Emerge from the wall, immediate right angle, then shutoff valve, so the shutoff valve is parallel to the wall (to reduce clearance between dryer and wall) -Is an Italian mfg, brass full bore ball valve ok for this shutoff? -Is the max distance between dryer and shuttoff valve 3 ft or 6 ft? -What is the correct kind of connection from the shutoff to the appliance itself? -Does code require a pressure test, and if so, how is this done (equipment etc)? The copper pipe under the kitchen sink is leaking (slowly) where the connection to the dishwasher leaves the hot water line. Is this a problem I can remedy or is it of such a nature that I will need to engage a plumber? There is a piece of what appears to be paper about 1/8-1/4 inch below the copper nut. Thanks for any assistance you can offer.
