Repairing Single Handle Kitchen Faucet
#1

Going thru the archives it seems there's a special ring or collar that needs to be removed before the cartridge can be removed. Our faucet was installed by Sears when we had the kitchen remodeled. The valve mechanism is a slotted brass ball. On top is a screw on top of two square nuts. Removing the screw did nothing. As I don't want to buy a reapir kit with an exact match, I figure it would be a good idea to pull the guts out first. Trouble is, I can't seem to find that ring or collar. There is no knurling on the faucet. Also, when the water is turned on, it flows for a moment then "hammers" one time. Thanks for the help.

When you turn the faucet on, do you have to lift up the handle and turn left and right for the hot and cold?

Yes.
"Straight" up gives warm, to the left gives cold, to the right, hot. Amount of lift determines flow.

Sounds like and after re-reading your post, that your faucet could be a peerless facet, if you see a dome top below the handle, this should unscrew from there, after that gets removed then you can access the seats springs and seats. Is this what your faucet looks like?

Sorry I didn't respond sooner. Your exploded view does not look like the faucet. It shows a retaining ring whereas on our I can't find one. The metal around the spigot is smooth chrome, no knurling. The ball has a screw with two square nuts under it.
