Toilet BANG
#1

I have a toilet in my basement and when it is flushed I hear a running sound and then a large bang in the rooms upstairs. The sound seems to come from the attic. Does anyone know what this is and how I can fix it?

If the running water sound ends when it bangs you have water hammer,
when your toilet shuts off suddenly it causes the pipe to bang. Depending on your toilet fill valve, you may be able to adjust it to slow the speed the water comes into the tank. If not replace it with one that can be adjusted. If you want the cheap, cheap fix just turn the fixture shut off valve down about half way and that should slow the water down enough to quiet the hammering. another solution would be to install air chambers.
good luck,
