Sufficient Well Water Flowrate
#1

Does anyone know, in practice, what a sufficient Well Water Flowrate would be for a 4 bedroom house with a medium size lawn sprinkler system? Would 4.25 gal/min be reasonable (assuming water pressure around 35-40psi)? I've heard 5-6 gal/min is needed but a house I'm looking at may have a pump control system that shuts down above 4.5 gal/min (I don't know why). Any ideas would be helpful.

I would get his opinion of the general condition of the system, if the well doesn't put out the capacity you need -ask him what could be done, you may want to have a water test done to determine the health quality of the water. Does he have any knowledge of the area, such as do you have problems with wells running low in dry weather, ect?-plumber john

Yes, we have heard of other wells in the area running dry last year. It happens to be a great neighborhood and a betterment has been approved to provide town water to the neighborhood (probably by next summer). I still would like to be sure we could have normal living conditions over the next year and later on if we put in a sprinkler system supplied by well water.
If the testing we do next week results in an insufficient well. What about drilling another well (possibly negotiate the cost with the sellers)?
