Check valve for washer drain?

I have a 2nd floor washer which sits in a plastic pan with a drain in case of leak. The washer's drain hose goes to the wall behind it as typical. That drain goes down into the same drain pipe as the pan. When washer drains, water backs up a bit into the pan (just like how water comes up your garbage disposal when the dishwasher drains). How can I prevent this? Could I try sticking the drain hose deep into the pan drain?

I would pipe the drain pan directly to the basement and drain it indirectly (not physically connected)into a floor drain, or some other similar receptor. by having it connected directly to the drain upstairs you have created a problem equal to the one you are trying to solve, sewage backing up as oppossed to a washer leak, I have seen check valves in these situations but I dont think they are reliable.
Best of luck-plumber john
