Question

How (device?) do you remove water from pipes esp. elbows, so safe in sub-freezing temps thru winter when closing a seasonal home?

When I winterize, first I shut the water off in the meter pit. Open all the faucets, flush all the toilets ect. I open the water line a the lowest point in the basement and drain the water in the line out to here, use an air bubble and blow air into the open faucet spouts to force water in the line back out the open line or drain at the low point of the house plumbing. Sometimes a rubber ball stuck on the nozzle will make a good gasket to force the air in the spout, or use rags to force the air in. For the drain lines I use RV antifreeze pour it in all the traps and in the toilet tanks, and bowls.
Good luck- Plumber John
