I have recently replaced some galvanized supply runs with sections of CPVC. Now when water is running I hear a whistleing sound from the pipes. Is this just the nature of the beast? THere was no whistleing with the galvanized.

Thanks

No cpvc shouldn't whistle by nature,
Noise is usually caused by the friction of water moving too fast through too small of a pipe. Possibly the reason the galvanized was quiet was that it may have been partially corroded shut and not allowing the water to move quickly,
Too small of pipes will cause noise, also a partially closed valve or a restriction in the line, or too high of pressure, If the water pressure is over 80lbs install a pressure reducing valve.

Rule of thumb for sizing water lines for an average house.

No more than 3 fixtures from
a 1/2" line(I would go no more than 2 fixtures on a 1/2" line for cpvc) Always run 3/4" cold to the waterheater regardless-and 3/4" from the waterheater to the 1st hot water fixture regardless.
Remember this is only a rule of thumb, local codes and conditions will affect this.
