I was in the shower this morning and the water started to get cold after about 5 or 6 minutes and the water pressure dropped off to a dribble. The house is new to me and it is my first one. The house was built in 1973. I have never liked the shower head in the shower and it seems to have alot of deposites on it. Could it just need to be cleaned or replaced. This is the only faucet in the house that does it. After I got out of the shower I checked the other faucets and toilets. The toliets flushed and the sinks all had hot water and plenty of water pressure? Any clue? I also have a new washing machine and the drain there will drain, but does backs up when spinning and during the rinse. I Think it is due to the amount of flow with the washer and the size of the old drain. I don't think that the two are related, but I am no plumber? Any help would be apperciated.

Unless someone else took a lot of showers before you, I would suspect either someone else was using hot water, dishwasher, washing machine, etc. while you were in the shower.

The shower head may need to be replaced, but it is not going to "selectively" allow cold water to pass, and not hot water. Most probable cause is someone else turning on hot water in the house.
