I just bought a house that has a well with hard water. A local company quoted me $1,450 to install a typical self regenerating brine based system. I have read about a catalytic alloy system that charges the water. They advertise easy do-it-yourself installation for $450. Anyone have experience with these systems? Do they work as well as the brine systems?

Everything I have heard is that nothing works better tyhan the brine/ion exchange systems. I would be very cautious about other types of systems. Research it and find out how it works that will cost you less in the long run

sink stopper- leaking rod connection

I have a leak where the sink stopper rod enters the drain pipe. Have realigned and tightened but it still leaks, sometimes a lot. Is there packing or something I can use to stop the leak.

Faucet drip

I am replacing the faucet heads and I am still getting leaks from the tap. I have checked the aeriator(sp) and that is fine. As well, the faucet heads are not turning the water off...meaning when it goes to the "off" position the water continues to run. I have to take off the caps and manually turn the valve to the off position. Even then, the water seeps out. What do I do??? <b> help! </b>
