cpvc and brass
Hello
Do you connect cpvc pipe to brass fittings like shut off valves using compression fittings? Are they special ones for cpvc or regular soft copper ones? I believe you connect cpvc to cpvc with a cleaner then cement, give a quarter turn and hold 30 seconds-corrections appreciated before I begin.
Thank you
Pete

If you are installing valves, use a Male Iron Pipe adapter glued onto the CPVC pipe. Then screw the valve onto it. CPVC is a different outside diameter than copper or even PVC.
You are correct about gluing the pipe. Make sure you use the correct glue. Good Luck.

Hi Mjakdragon
I don't want to split hairs but want to make sure of what I'm getting.
You use the word glue-is that what the container says or does it say cement-also does the one for cpvc differ from the one for pvc?
You said a male 'iron' pipe adapter-is it really ferrous like iron or is it brass so it won't corrode?
Thank you for your help and I'll be off to the store when I get your response.

Sorry for the confusion. It is called cement. There is a difference in PVC and CPVC cement although they do make one that is multiuse (PVC,CPVC and ABS).
Male iron pipe adapter only means that it has male threads. It is still CPVC.
You may also want to get cleaner for the pipe and fittings. It removes the shiny coating from the pipe and fittings and "eats" into the material for a better seal.
