water from sink faucet hotter than tub faucet

I am trying to figure out why the water coming out of our sink (upstairs guest bathroom) is hotter than the water coming out of the tub (same bathroom).

We bought the house a year ago. I am unaware of any anti-scald valves on the tub. Could there be one without my knowledge?

If it isn't that, what else could cause this problem? The water in the tub isn't even hot enough to bathe in.

Thank you.

petalutha, Welcome to the DIY Forums.
If you just turn on the hot water, is it warm only? If so, turn off the cold water inlet valve at the hot water heater. Open a hot faucet downstairs to relieve pressure. Then go up and open the hot faucet on the tub. If water comes out, the mixing valve is leaking across. Probably needs replacing.
If the faucet has a cartridge, you may have to replace it.
Anti scald is built into the faucet. You have to take it apart to set the limits on hot water. Good luck.
