Whistling Sound from Shower Head

Often times, when I turn off the faucet in the bathtub, there is a whistling/air pressure sound that comes from the shower head (even if the shower was not used). It lasts a few seconds and disappears. Is this something I should be concerned about?

SherryD333, Welcome to the dIY Forums.
It could be a washer or an "O" ring (if you have a single handle faucet) that is going bad. Air can work its way around these and not leak water. Sounds like it starts vibrating when the water is turned on and then settles down when pressure is equalized. It will probably get worse as time goes on so you may want to start looking for replacement parts now. It won't hurt anything but I know it can be very irritating. Good luck.

I had a plumber come in today. He charged me $60 and said there is nothing he can do about the sound. He said something about it is the water pressure going up into the shower and then the shower not being turned on and when I turn the water off, it is going back down. (??) I asked about the "O" ring or cartridge. He said it wasn't that.

Not sure if your plumber was not knowledgeable or just in a hurry. In order for the sound to happen," something" has to be vibrating. What did he do for the $60? Think I would call his office and request someone explain the reasoning that he could not fix it. At least he could have "ripped" you off for changing the whole valve assembly. Do not think I would hire this company again. (but I would still make the call) Good luck.

I did call and they are returning my $60 check. I have a referral on a plumber from a friend. I am going to call him today and see what he says. I'll let you know.
