I am remodeling my house. I am moving the washer/dryer connections. The old washer drain was 1 1/2 pipe. So when I moved it I used the same size pipe to connect to the old drain. I think I may have two problems: 1) reading on here I see alot of people suggest 2" pipe for a washer drain. will I run in to problems using the 1 1/2"? I am about maxed out on my budget and really dont want to buy any more supplies, plus I don't think it would matter if I am tying back in to a 1 1/2" drain pipe anyway? 2) the vent.... a friend actually hooked up the drain and forgot to add the vent. the new drain is about 12' from the old one. I don't think the old one was vented anywhere near the drain, about 7-8 feet away. I just bought the house so I don't know if there were any problems with the drainage. my question here is do I need to vent from the trap or from the drain? can I move the trap closer to another drain and then tie in to that vent? what is the max distance for a 1 1/2" drain to be vented? what is the max distance between the actual drain and the trap? I am planning to replace my copper water pipes with CPVC in the next few weeks. I have a well and VERY acidic water and the joints in the pipe are breaking down. Anyway, when I do this project, I had planned on adding a laundry tub next to my washer and dryer. When I was looking at the DWV I noticed that it was 3" THIN WALL. I have called every local store and cannot find any type of 3x3x1.5 wye to use with it. Does anyone know how to add the drain for my laundry tub with this stuff? Does anyone make a bushing that would fill the gap so I can get a "normal" wye to fit? If not, how can I do this w/o changing all the DWV too? This is what the pipe has printed on it: 3" Genova MKIN PVC1120 THIN WALL ASTM E-84 60031 I have emailed Genova, but have heard nothing from them yet.
