?? Stand-alone shower drain size
We are renovating the bathroom and have discovered that the stand-alone shower uses a 2" drain which reduces into a 1 1/2" P-trap and 1 1/2" drain to the stack. Everything we have read indicates that stand-alone showers should have a 2" drain the entire distance to the stack. Do we live with the 1 1/2" drain or replace it with a 2"? What are the consequences if we leave it as 1 1/2"?

Hi swstar,
Welcome to the DIY Forums.
Are you doing the work yourself? Are you having a contractor do it? Are you planning to sell your home in the future? Are you having an inspector check the work?
You must answer these questions to yourself to know the answers.
You can do ANYTHING you want, HOWEVER you may have to pay the consequences if you get caught with code violations.
The consequences can range anywhere from a total tear-out to fines IF you get caught.
The smaller drain does not cause any drainage problems, however I can not give you the ok to go against code, this would be YOUR call. I know what I would do if it was me
Good luck and reply back if you have further questions.
