pvc pipe glue question

I connected the pvc pipes with teflon tape and then the glue. How long should the pipes cure until I run water through them? Thanks so much! Laura

Are they just slip on joints????? You dont use teflon tape in a glue joint.

Post back with just what you have or did here. In the same post

lauralen, Welcome to the DIY Forums.
Were the pipes threaded? If not, the teflon was not needed. Teflon is to lubricate threaded joints. Glue is for just that, glueing the joints. PVC glue takes overnight for a complete curing. I have used the lines in a couple hours with no problem. If you put teflon on the pipe and then glued them, I am not sure what will happen. Did you also use the primer for PVC glue? Please clarify exactly what you did. Thanks.

well...

I must admit. My husband is the plumber on this job, and I merely watched. He did not use the teflon tape, only glue. His masculinity is saved!

So, we want to test the water line. How long do we wait?

Thanks for your replies. I appreciate it so much!!! Laura

Agree with ED. The 24 hours stated on the glue can is actually a disclaimer that the company uses to make SURE the glue is fully cured. 2 hours should be more than enough. Good luck with your project.
